Spa town among the hills and the Staffora

Salice Terme is a spa town surrounded by nature, situated at an altitude of around 167 metres at the foothills of the Apennines. The town lies between the hills of San Bartolomeo and Nazzano on the left bank of the Staffora stream.

Voghera–Varzi Greenway

The Voghera–Varzi Greenway is a combined cycle and walking path. The flat section connects Voghera with Salice Terme, while the hillier section runs through the Staffora Valley to Varzi. The first 14 kilometres of the section between Voghera and Salice Terme are predominantly flat – a practical point of reference if you would like to plan your cycling days according to route and landscape.

The SalicEbike bicycle rental service offers e-bikes year-round by reservation for half a day, a full day or several days. At Parco Avventura Salice Terme, the UP 2 TREE treetop attraction reaches up to 16 metres above the ground.

Fonte Sales and the thermal tradition

Fonte Sales is located in the heart of Salice Terme and is easy to reach. Regardless of the outside weather conditions, its sulphurous water generally has a constant temperature of around 10 to 14°C. Only when outside temperatures remain below zero for an extended period in January or February does the temperature fall to around 8°C.

The water of Fonte Sales was the first water in Italy in which iodine was discovered, and the first mineral water to be officially used in medicine. The Terme di Salice have a thermal pool with a vascular circuit, waterfalls and hydromassage facilities. The thermal facilities of Salice Terme are currently being renovated.

Spa park, relaxation and exercise

The historic spa park of Salice Terme features old trees and shady avenues. It offers space for relaxing, walking and exercising.

Churches and literary traces

Historical records for the Church of the Natività di Maria Vergine date back to around the year 1000. It was initially cared for by Benedictines and later by Dominicans. The church dedicated to Cristo Re was built in 1939. In the same year, Salice Terme became an independent parish; Cristo Re is the patron saint of the town, whose feast day falls on 8 September.

The poet Ada Negri spent several seasons in Salice Terme and wrote some of her finest verses there under the oak tree that bears her name. The tree still stands in the park today.
