San Damiano al Colle: Wine, Wide Open Spaces and History
San Damiano al Colle between vineyards and hills
San Damiano al Colle is a small town situated on a ridge more than 200 metres high in the Oltrepò Pavese. Numerous hamlets are scattered across the hills, while the roads run through landscapes lined with vineyards. From this panoramic location, there are views of the Bardonezza stream and the border with the province of Piacenza; it also offers an impressive view of Rovescala. The elevated location combines winegrowing with expansive views over the immediate surroundings.
Winegrowing as a defining feature of the town
The Azienda Bagnoli and Azienda Agricola Brandolini are particularly associated with the wine landscape of San Damiano al Colle. The vineyards of Azienda Bagnoli extend across the municipalities of San Damiano al Colle and MontĂą Beccaria. Azienda Agricola Brandolini has existed since 1873 and has always been based in the municipality of San Damiano al Colle (PV), where most of its vineyards are located.
Visits and tastings
At Azienda Agricola Brandolini, guided tours of the vineyards and wine cellar followed by tastings of wines and sparkling wines are organised on request. A tasting room is available for up to 25 people. From its reception area, Azienda Bagnoli offers guided wine tastings and vineyard tours. The wine landscape is therefore not merely a backdrop, but becomes the subject of the visit itself through the guided tours.
Grape harvest and Rassegna dei Vini 2026
At Azienda Bagnoli, the grape harvest takes place every year between August and October and is carried out entirely by hand. The traditional Rassegna dei Vini 2026 in San Damiano al Colle is a four-day event featuring live music, DJ sets, orchestras and traditional cuisine. Each evening of the event also includes a food stand offering dishes from the culinary tradition of the Oltrepò. The Rassegna brings the connection between wine and regional cuisine into a four-day event format.
Historical traces in the town
In 1452, San Damiano al Colle is recorded as “Sanctus Damianus” in connection with the “Statuta stratarum” for the area of Ultra Padum. Castello di San Damiano stands on the site of an earlier fortification from the early Middle Ages, dated to the 11th century. The Castello is privately owned and visible from the outside. Rocchetta is privately owned and visible from the outside. Opposite Borgo San Damiano lies Mondonico at the entrance to the valley of the Rio Marsinola. There are a church and a private house there that was once the town’s old castle.
