Santa Giuletta – Wine Tradition, Castello and Paths through the Landscape

Winegrowing history and rural character

The highlights range from historic towers and churches to vineyards, wineries and circular trails connecting Santa Giuletta with other towns.

The road to Castello passes historic vineyards and wineries, most of which are organically farmed. Santa Giuletta is also part of the history of winegrowing: in 1879, the town was the site of one of the earliest known outbreaks of downy mildew.

Castello, towers and sacred buildings

The Torre Griziotti is considered a fortified tower from the 12th century. The cellars of the original 12th-century Castello complex have survived, while the parish church of Castello was built around 1200. The Sarolli-Griziotti Tower combines Romantic and Renaissance elements. Together, these buildings provide a precise picture of different eras, without requiring you to limit yourself to a single attraction.

Other cultural points of interest include Palazzo Isimbardi and the Church of San Colombano. Palazzo Isimbardi includes a chapel with a loggia dedicated to Saint Catherine and is surrounded by approximately 40,000 square metres of parkland. San Colombano contains stained-glass windows and a rose window by Father Costantino Ruggeri. Museum and event in May

The Museo storico culturale della bambola e del giocattolo “Quirino Cristiani” is dedicated to Quirino Cristiani. It is located on the ground floor of Palazzo Comunale. The Mostra mercato della bambola e del giocattolo d'epoca is also an event featuring historic toys: it has been held in Santa Giuletta every May since 2014. The museum and market thus add a distinctive cultural accent alongside the buildings of Castello.

Paths up to Castello

From the centre of Santa Giuletta, the road climbs via Via Emilia to the Castello district and then continues along a panoramic ridge. In addition, Sentiero 315A is designated as a circular trail between Torricella Verzate, Oliva Gessi, Mornico Losana and Santa Giuletta. Sentiero 315B runs as a circular trail between Cigognola, Pietra de’ Giorgi, Redavalle and Santa Giuletta.
