Zenevredo Among Vineyards, History and Lombard Cuisine

Zenevredo lies near the plain, to the right of the Torrente Versa, on the first hills at just over 200 metres above sea level. The rural landscape is characterised by fields, gentle slopes and small streams. The “Le nostre colline” viewpoint offers views of the vineyards.

The small waterways are also part of the landscape. The Rio Fontanone flows through Poggio Pelato, while the Rio Paolone flows through the hamlet of Zenevredo that bears the same name.

Church and Local History

In the town centre stands a 14th-century tower on a site identified as the former location of the castle. Another historic landmark is the Chiesa di San Vincenzo. The church dates from the mid-18th century. In its rear section, particularly in the presbytery and sacristy, traces of Romanesque masonry made from local stone and bricks have been preserved. The façade was rebuilt in 1871.

Admission to the Chiesa di San Vincenzo is free. The car park at the church is wheelchair accessible.

Wine and Lombard Cuisine

Oltrenero is known for sparkling wines made using the Metodo Classico method, which undergo a second fermentation in the bottle. Oltrenero is open year-round to visitors and wine enthusiasts. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; it is closed on Sundays.

During Oltrenero’s guided tasting, three sparkling wines are paired with culinary specialities. These include Salame di Varzi DOP, goat’s cheese and Formaggella di Menconico. The culinary connection also extends to Lombardy’s peasant cuisine: at the 2026 Polentata di Zenevredo, traditional polenta could be enjoyed in the Ortone della Chiesa hamlet from 12:00 p.m.

Routes Through Hills and Vineyards

The Zenevredo–Montù Beccaria route passes through hills and vineyards. For cycling enthusiasts, the route of the 2021 Giro d’Italia also runs through the Oltrepò Pavese: it branches off from the Strada Statale 10 Padana Inferiore onto the Strada Provinciale 85 towards Zenevredo, then continues along the Provinciale 134 towards Montù Beccaria.

Polentata di Zenevredo

In 2026, the Polentata di Zenevredo reached its fifth edition. During this edition, the day began with the fourth edition of a charity run; the meeting point was at 8:00 a.m. at the Centro Sportivo di Zenevredo.
