Art and Historic Centre
Pennabilli combines a historic centre with art, nature and regional cuisine. I Luoghi dell’Anima is an open-air museum that extends through the historic centre of Pennabilli and part of the Valmarecchia Valley. It comprises seven open-air museums, making different locations and artistic works an essential part of the stay.

The Casa Museo Tonino Guerra is now the centrepiece of the installations created by Guerra for I Luoghi dell’Anima. L’Orto dei Frutti Dimenticati preserves fruit plants from the spontaneous flora of the Apennines, collected there to protect them from being forgotten and becoming extinct. The site also houses sculptures and works by contemporary artists and by Tonino Guerra.
Museums with Different Profiles
Il Mondo di Tonino Guerra displays paintings, ceramics and sculptures designed and created by Tonino Guerra; it is located in the cellars of the Oratorio di Santa Maria della Misericordia, which dates back to the 14th century. The Museo del Montefeltro displays liturgical objects, ecclesiastical vestments, antique furniture, furnishings bearing traces of private or public use, votive offerings and reliquaries. The Santuario dei Pensieri comprises seven stone sculptures and is enclosed by the walls of a room from an old Malatesta estate.
Playful learning also has its place in Pennabilli: the Lampi di genio laboratory at Mateureka enables interactive and playful experiments with the most important calculating instruments through 30 exhibits. The focus is on practical calculating instruments and interactive experiments.
Nature and Learning
In terms of its landscape, Pennabilli is one of the municipalities within the Sasso Simone e Simoncello Interregional Nature Park. The MUSSS – Museo Naturalistico Parco Sasso Simone e Simoncello presents the park’s most important animal species in a permanent exhibition with dioramas and faithfully reconstructed habitats. It also displays a specimen of a European wildcat found in the park in 2002 and provides spaces for educational and cultural events.
The Sentiero Tonino Guerra leads from the historic centre of Pennabilli towards the valley between Monte Canale and Monte Carpegna.
Regional Cuisine and Events
The local cuisine includes trattorias, restaurants, agriturismi, pizzerias and cafés. In Pennabilli, they serve traditional dishes and regional products.
The events calendar also makes use of the available spaces in the town. Artisti in Piazza uses the streets, squares, alleyways and gardens of Pennabilli’s historic centre for music, theatre, new circus and other performances, and takes place every year in Pennabilli. During Pennabilli Antiquariato, apartments, shops and palaces in the historic centre are used for antique galleries for 15 days in July. In this way, performances and temporary galleries come together in the historic town centre.
