Roman Villa and Ricetto di San Mauro

The Roman villa is an archaeological site dating from the 1st century AD in Grange di Rivera, at the foot of Monte Musinè. The ground floor, parts of the monumental entrance, the central courtyard and the large terrace facing south towards the valley have survived from the complex. The Ricetto di San Mauro is located in the Rivera district of Almese; its first documented mention dates back to 1029.

The tower of the Torre e Ricetto di San Mauro is also among the sites offering guided tours. These take place on the last Sunday of every month; at other times, guided tours are possible by arrangement. If you like to structure your day around cultural destinations, these historical sites can easily be combined with excursions and trails.

MTB Routes with Different Characteristics

Several clearly described options are available for mountain biking. The Percorso delle Guardie – ROSSO MTB loop begins in Pera Pluc, is just over 8 kilometres long, involves 400 metres of elevation gain and takes an average of 2 hours without breaks. The “Sacra Natura” MTB route connects Almese with Sacra di San Michele and has a total duration of 3.5 hours without breaks. The differing figures for distance, elevation gain and duration help you distinguish between the two routes when planning your day.

A low-barrier option for cycling is Bike Park Ghibaudo, with two practice tracks: one approximately 50 metres long for children and one for teenagers, approximately 400 metres long and 2 metres wide.

Forest, Trails and Green Spaces

At the Arboreto didattico in Pian dei Listelli, a section of woodland has been equipped for nature education. It features explanatory panels, a footpath and a semicircular arena. From Pera Pluc, the arboretum can be reached via the 700-metre Feuerbruchtrasse. This makes the site a place where nature observation can be combined with a clearly manageable trail distance.

Parco Robinson is a green space covering more than 9,500 square metres on the Via Francigena between the centre of Rivera and the industrial area. The park includes picnic tables, play facilities for children, a fountain and a small pond. These specific facilities provide useful points of reference if you would like to include a green space with areas for relaxing and playing in your day plan.

Short Trails and a Lakeside Destination

The trail to Goja del Pis begins at Almese’s central square, by the S. Anna bridge, and takes about 50 minutes with 150 metres of ascent. For a different kind of leisure plan, there is Lago Tre Pais: In summer, fishing is permitted from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm, seven days a week; in winter, from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm. You should take the seasonally different fishing hours into account when putting together your day.
