Church, museum and Melezet

The Chiesa di Sant’Ippolito is part of the local history. It was rebuilt between 1826 and 1829 on the same site as its Romanesque predecessor, Santa Maria “ad lacum”, which collapsed in 1806. A Romanesque bell tower has been preserved at the church; a second bell tower has an onion dome. Its architectural history thus combines the 19th-century reconstruction with the Romanesque bell tower and the onion dome of the second tower. The patron saint’s festival, Festa patronale di Sant’Ippolito, is celebrated on 13 August.

Another cultural point of interest is the Museo Civico di Bardonecchia. It is housed in a 19th-century building, the former town hall, and contains a collection on local material culture spread over two floors. The former town hall building connects the building’s municipal past with the local material culture collected across its two floors. In Melezet, the former primary school building is now home to the Scuola d'intaglio del Melezet. Traditional woodcarving continues to be practised in Bardonecchia today in carving schools and small workshops, where motifs and decorative themes from the old tradition are offered. The former school building in Melezet connects its previous educational purpose with the present-day Scuola d'intaglio del Melezet.
