History and architectural heritage in Bricherasio

Bricherasio offers you various ways to explore history, architecture and local culture within a compact area. The parish church of Santa Maria is a Baroque church built in 1602. Its high altar depicts Bricherasio's traditional products, grapes and apples, with leaf and fruit motifs. The church also houses a 19th-century organ built by the Collino brothers.

At the foot of the castle hill stands the Palazzo dei Conti di Bricherasio. It was built between the 17th and 18th centuries on the site of fortifications that had been destroyed during the siege of 1594. Its park covers almost four hectares and contains around 50 tree species and at least 20 shrub species. The Belvedere viewpoint is located in the Conte Viancino park, an open area with tables, benches and a fountain. The Belvedere itself is a two-storey building with a pentagonal ground plan and a roof made of Luserna stone shingles.

The Belvedere can only be reached on foot: either via the Scalinata al Castello or along an unpaved path beside the car park on Via San Michele. The ascent to the castle leads to the fortress and consists of 15 steps made of stone slabs with 30 to 40 centimetres of gravel. The church of Madonna del Castello can also be reached from the town centre via a stone staircase used for walks and pilgrimages. Within the town, the In Sterni staircase connects Via Roma with Via Vittorio Emanuele II; its paving stones are laid irregularly.

Exhibitions, churches and local traces

The Ecomuseo della Resistenza in Bricherasio houses the “La guerra di Bastian” exhibition and multimedia materials in the documentation centre. It is located in Località San Michele on the ground floor of a former school. In another part of town stands the Church of Santa Caterina on Strada Santa Caterina in San Michele, 2.6 kilometres from the town centre. It has mixed stone and brick walls, a single-nave layout and a semicircular apse. The monument dedicated to Filippo Brignone commemorates a lieutenant, general and senator of the Kingdom who was born in Bricherasio. The Cuccia oven has a firing chamber built entirely of brick, two rectangular niches and a drying shaft in the attic. These different buildings and places of remembrance provide several concrete starting points for your exploration.

Hiking, cycling and wine country

For walks and longer routes, Section A of the Sentieri della Resistenza offers a clearly described route: it runs entirely within the municipality of Bricherasio, is 25 kilometres long and starts and ends at the town's primary schools. The Strada delle Mele Bike Tour starts and ends in Bricherasio at Piazza Giretti, runs along the banks of the Chisone and is approximately 21 kilometres long. It showcases Bricherasio along an old road through the town between aristocratic palaces and vineyards. A biodiversity trail follows Via Del Grotto through the hilly landscape to the districts of San Michele and Santa Caterina, in a landscape characterized by vineyards.

Festivals and regional impressions

The Sagra dell'Uva has been celebrated in Bricherasio since the early years of the 20th century in September, during the grape harvest. Every year, it attracts numerous people with handmade allegorical floats on the theme of grapes and wine. In addition, Mangia&Cammina is a culinary walking event taking place on 6 September 2026 in the hills of Bricherasio. After a one-year break, it is being organized by the Pro Loco di Bricherasio together with numerous local producers and businesses.
