Churches, Art and Cherries in Pecetto

Pecetto is a destination for travellers who want to discover Italian local history through churches, works of art and local produce. Its character unfolds through different historical layers: medieval and early modern architectural history, painting and music stand alongside cherries as a local speciality.

Chiesa di San Sebastiano: Architecture and Art

At the Chiesa di San Sebastiano, now a cemetery chapel, architectural and art history come together particularly vividly. The building dates from the late 14th to the early 15th century and has a predominantly Gothic interior. On the right-hand side of the opposite façade is a Nativity scene by Jacopino Longo dated 1508. It is considered the earliest surviving dated work by this artist.

A fresco was also created in the presbytery vault between 1440 and 1450. It is regarded as an outstanding work by the painter Guglielmetto Fantini, who came from Chieri. The fresco was therefore created earlier than the Nativity scene on the façade, dated 1508.

Santa Maria della Neve: Construction Period and Furnishings

The Parrocchiale di Santa Maria della Neve leads into a later era. It was built from 1730 to 1739 and was the first building designed by Bernardo Antonio Vittone.

Its main altar is made of marble, comes from the Eremo and is a work by Francesco Dellala of Beinasco. The furnishings also include an imposing organ from 1778 with five manuals. The parish church thus combines a building designed by Vittone, a marble altar and an instrument of exceptional size.

Confraternita: Baroque Façade and Access

The Chiesa della Confraternita del SS. Nome di Gesù and the “Battuti Bianchi” was designed by Luigi Molinari d'Andorno in the first half of the 17th century. Its Baroque façade features pilasters, vaults and niches.

The structure also includes a panel that originally featured a fresco, as well as a large framed window in the upper section. As part of scheduled events, the church can be accessed without difficulty. Access remains limited to these event settings.

Fortifications and Villa Sacro Cuore

Bric San Viter also preserves visible foundations of a medieval fortification. Villa Sacro Cuore provides a different historical accent: it stands next to the parish church on the hilltop and is surrounded by a park. It was formerly also known as Villa Nigra and later as Villa Triulzi. These earlier names form part of the villa’s historical sequence of names.

Cherries Directly from Local Producers

Pecetto’s cherries are also part of the local character. They can be bought directly from producers in Pecetto. This means that a specific agricultural product complements the town’s churches, works of art and historical traces.
