Discover Rollieres: Church, Trails and Winter at the Torrente Ripa

Rollieres can be discovered from several perspectives: through its sacred history, old routes, the Torrente Ripa and seasonal activities. This makes the village suitable for travel planning in which culture and physical activity stand side by side, without a single theme having to define your stay.

Sacred History in Rollieres

The parish church of SS. Pietro e Paolo stands in Rollieres. The present building was constructed in 1816 and consecrated in 1818; it stands on the site of an older chapel dedicated to the same saints. This makes the sacred history tangible for you in a specific building that connects the older chapel with the 19th-century construction.

Bread Ovens and Fountains

The bread ovens in Rollieres are a historical trace closely connected to everyday life. In the past, they were used once a month during the last quarter of the moon, the so-called “luna dura”, to bake bread over a wood fire. This use belongs to the past. The historic bread ovens have been restored to their former glory. Another specific feature of the village is its fountains, which are equipped with imposing stone basins.

Old Routes and Trails

The history of the routes is also part of Rollieres’ character. The Strada Reale di Francia connects Sauze di Cesana with Rollieres and the three hamlets of Champlas. It was planned by Napoleon’s engineers along the route of an older road.

The trail known as the “sentiero balcone” follows old roads. It connects Rollieres with Sauze di Cesana and then leads via Grangesises, Bessen Haut and Bessen Bass to the Valle Argentera, as well as onward to the neighboring municipalities of Cesana and Sestriere. This sequence shows that the view from Rollieres extends beyond the immediate village into the surrounding area.

The Torrente Ripa and the Fishing Reserve

On the Torrente Ripa, the lower stretch from the Rollieres bridgehead to the center of Cesana Torinese is designated as the Cesana Fishing Reserve. Within this fishing reserve, the section from the Rollieres bridgehead to the Bousson bridgehead is a no-kill zone. A fishing license is mandatory for the Cesana Fishing Reserve. Anyone viewing this area from the perspective of angling should therefore take into account the spatial distinction between the reserve and the no-kill zone.

Winter Activities on Monte Cimabosco

The cold season is another possible perspective on Rollieres. Cross-country skiing, ski touring and snowshoe hikes are practiced in the valley along the Torrente Ripa and on the slopes of Monte Cimabosco between Sauze di Cesana and Rollieres.
