The church stands halfway up the ridge that separates the Valle di Susa and the Val di Viù. On its oldest, northern wall, continuous masonry with herringbone-arranged stones has still been preserved. The stones are joined with mortar probably consisting of lime and sand; some experts consider this construction typical of the Romanesque period.

Cisrà, Festa dell’uva and Vià

The traditional San Didero soup “cisrà”, a chickpea-based soup, is part of the local food culture. Historically, it was prepared at Pentecost by the Brotherhood of the Holy Spirit and distributed to those in need. The Festa dell’uva is also part of the town’s traditional history: historically, it was a traditional festival attended by residents from throughout the valley. During the festival, grapes were traditionally crushed with the feet to make wine. The traditional winter “Vià” was a gathering in stables. There, stories about village life and times gone by, as well as stories about “masche”, or witches, and evil spirits, were told and shared.
