Villar Pellice between culture and mountain trails

Villar Pellice combines the history of the Waldensian valleys with a landscape that can be explored on foot, by mountain bike or, during the colder months, with snowshoes. A small stone building has stood in the centre of the hamlet of Ciarmis for several centuries. Its characteristic feature is an arch projecting from the slate roof, indicating its former function as a quartering stamp. The Tempio del Ciarmis served the hamlet community as a place of worship, a primary school and a hall for church meetings. The inhabited area also contains a number of interesting old and newly constructed sundials.

River landscapes and protected plants

The Stazioni di Myricaria germanica protects one of the last regional populations of the rare alpine riverbed tamarisk, Myricaria germanica. At the Rio Cassarot, there is an ecologically unaltered environment considered particularly suitable for fish. Both sites draw attention to natural habitats that shape the character of Villar Pellice just as much as its historic buildings.

Hiking, cycling and winter activities

The Anello delle Valli Valdesi, a circular hiking trail of around 120 kilometres divided into eight stages, passes through Villar Pellice. The Sentiero del Picchio can also be travelled with snowshoes or by mountain bike. For cyclists, the La via dei pastori route passes through Parco Flissia in Villar Pellice.
