Bocenago: History, Rendena Culture and Nature Experiences
Accommodation in Bocenago
History and Townscape
The parish church of Santa Margherita is already documented in visitation records dating from 1537. It stands on a natural terrace and is considered one of the finest viewpoints in the Rendena Valley. This is where a journey through Bocenago begins, at a building that connects history and landscape.
Museum and Living Tradition
The “Vecchia Rendena - Come Eravamo” Museum is housed in a historic building in the centre of Bocenago. At the ethnographic museum, you can discover old tools and equipment that were used in the past. The reconstructed dairy workshop, under the guidance of an experienced malgaro, presents the traditional “Caserada” process—in other words, the farming practice of processing milk into cheese and butter. In this way, the history of regional work and food culture becomes tangible through specific objects and practical demonstrations.
Lanes and Historic Customs
The historic lanes of Bocenago are lined with houses featuring the typical rustic architecture of Rendena. Portals and sacred murals adorn these houses, while characteristic granite fountains complete the streetscape. The “Antichi mestieri” event is a historical re-enactment held in the streets of Bocenago. The historic lanes and the event take place in Bocenago’s streets, while the museum is housed in a building in the centre. For visitors interested in culture, the townscape here combines with traditional forms of rural and craft life.
Cycling, Hiking and Nature
The Val Rendena cycle path passes through the centre of Bocenago and follows the course of the Sarca River. From Bocenago, numerous hiking and MTB trails lead to the surrounding alpine pastures and peaks, providing access to the natural environment of Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. When planning your days during a stay, the river course by the town centre and the trails to the alpine pastures and peaks offer distinct types of routes side by side.
A hike to the Cascata del Masanel passes waterfalls and the former inhabited settlement of Canisaga. Canisaga was once an inhabited settlement and was abandoned in the 17th century because of the plague. As a result, the hike has a historical dimension in addition to its nature experience.
Golf by the Sarca River
The golf course covers 25,000 m² between the centre of Bocenago and the Sarca River, which flows past the town. Golf Club Rendena has a practice area, a putting green and a pitching green. In addition to the golf course, Golf Club Rendena has three practice areas: a practice area, a putting green and a pitching green. Golf can therefore become a focus in its own right if you would like to combine the landscape with the sport of golf.
