Castello Tesino combines impressive natural formations, historic townscapes and trails with sweeping views across the landscape. The destinations are suitable for different kinds of days out: you can explore a limestone cave, discover alpine habitats, walk through an old town centre or plan a stroll along a path at Passo Brocon.

Nature between the cave and the panoramic views

The Grotte di Castello Tesino are impressive for their hundreds of stalactites and stalagmites. They are joined by columns, curtains, crusts and numerous other intermediate forms of cave formations. Nature here is therefore revealed not only as an open landscape, but also through a diverse subterranean world of shapes.

The access trail to the Grotte di Castello Tesino is slightly more than three kilometres long, has an elevation difference of 200 m and takes around 40 to 45 minutes on foot. These approximate figures help you realistically fit the visit into your own daily itinerary.

On the way to Madonna del Caravaggio, the panoramic view stretches from Monte Picosta over Celado to the Grigno Gorge in the direction of Valsugana. Another way to experience nature is the Trodo dei Fiori, a walking trail at Passo Brocon. It begins in the square by the hotels.

Alpine habitats and historic town centre

The T-Lab Museo Tesino del Territorio reconstructs alpine habitats and provides detailed descriptions of each one.

In the Terrasanta district, stone houses, frescoed walls and characteristic covered passageways known as “volti” preserve the character of the old town centre. The district was formerly known as Caolaela. Castello Tesino is also home to Palazzo Gallo, a remarkable 17th-century building. One of the town’s churches was built in 1436.

Historical everyday culture is also present in the village of Cainari in Castello Tesino: two old mills were recently restored there. In el molin de sot, workshops for children and young people are held in summer, including “Sòrc e dintorni”. These workshops explain the journey of maize from the field to the milling of the grain.

Different focuses for your trip

When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Castello Tesino, you can decide in advance what you want to focus on during your stay: local history, alpine habitats, nature trails or the panoramic views along the path to Madonna del Caravaggio each create a different experience. The distance to the cave calls for a different daily plan than a stay focused on the town centre.

The Osservatorio Astronomico is accessible to people with disabilities. There are ski lifts in the Marande area of Castello Tesino. Which of these aspects matters most to you depends on your personal pace of travel and the interests of your companions.
