Celledizzo: Village Character, Craftsmanship and Routes
Celledizzo lies on a gently sloping alluvial fan, a landform created by deposited sediment. The village combines a distinctive historic appearance with routes into the surrounding area. Here, you can combine village details, woodcraft, a hike to the waterfall and an e-bike experience without these impressions repeating the same theme.
Woodworking and Traditional Village Details
The Museo Etnografico del Legno displays the old machinery of a sawmill. Although it is electrically powered, it preserves typical mechanisms of a Venetian sawmill. The museum also presents traditional woodworking tools used from felling trees to artistic work. This means that the focus is not just on a single building, but on wood processing across different stages of work.
The Church of Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano stands on the edge of the village center. From there, it overlooks the village's old houses and the valley floor. The numerous fountains with washing areas and livestock troughs are also characteristic. The oldest fountains are still preserved in their original form, are made of granite, bear the year 1900 and were crafted by the Zorzi stonemason masters from Vermiglio.
Hike to the Cascata Piz del Pai
A circular hike to the Cascata Piz del Pai begins in Celledizzo. It follows the unpaved road towards Celentino and turns off after 300 meters towards Malga Sassa and the waterfall. The Cascata Piz del Pai plunges into a narrow rocky gorge. The return route leads via Celentino and the gravel road “Le Penagiole” back to Celledizzo, bringing you back to the starting point of the loop.
For planning purposes, it is important to note that the route to the Cascata Piz del Pai is not suitable for strollers. From the area near the Church of Santi Fabiano e Sebastiano, two footpaths also lead to an alpine pasture: an old path of medium difficulty and an easier forest track. The walking time is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. The Museo del Contadino di Montagna can be visited by prior reservation as part of a guided tour.
Exploring by E-Bike
Another option is the “Hop On the saddle” e-bike experience. The route leads from Celledizzo via Peio Paese to the Malga Talè visitor center. It runs along unpaved paths and does not require any special physical preparation.
An Announced Event in the Historic Center
The event “I Veri” or “I Ligeri” has been announced in Celledizzo for July 30 and 31 and August 1 and 2, 2026. As part of this event, a Mass and a procession with flags through the historic center are scheduled for August 2, 2026, accompanied by the Corpo Bandistico Val di Pejo.
