Cembra: Trails, Churches and Culinary Delights

Cembra brings together several interests that you can weigh differently when planning your trip: experiences with nature and animals, physical activity, sacred art and culinary delights. Specific points of interest include an alpaca farm, hiking and cycling routes, historic churches, and a gourmet experience offered in autumn featuring wine from Val di Cembra.

Nature Experiences and Routes

Allevamento Silpaca is an alpaca farm in LocalitĂ  Maso Vac, 38034 Cembra. Visits and alpaca trekking are offered there exclusively by prior appointment. A hiking route from Rifugio Lago Santo di Cembra follows the SAT 414 and the Sentiero Italia to the Lagabrun peat bog. Alongside the animal encounter, this provides a route to a distinctive natural destination in the Cembra area.

For cyclists, there is cycling route 873, “Lago Santo–Passo Potzmauer”. It passes through Cembra, is 22 km long and is listed as taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. The “Val di Cembra coast to coast” hike offers a different experience. It crosses a footbridge over the river opposite Centrale di Pozzolago. Centrale di Pozzolago is still in operation and is an example of 1920s industrial architecture.

Churches and Art in Cembra

In Cembra’s historic center stands the Chiesa di San Pietro, an old church founded in the High Middle Ages. It houses an 18th-century painting of the Last Judgment by Valentino Rovisi, of the Tiepolo school. The Chiesa di San Rocco was built in 1519 following a plague epidemic and expanded in 1839 as a vow of thanksgiving for deliverance from cholera. Both churches offer direct access to the town’s religious and historical heritage.

Destinations in the Surrounding Area

Monte Speggia and La Gorsa are located in the immediate vicinity of Cembra. The surrounding area of Cembra also includes the Museo Storico in Trento – Castello del Buonconsiglio, Dosso di Segonzano, Monte Palace, the Provincial Museum of Art, the Museo della Società Alpinisti Trentini and Dosson. This allows you to include natural destinations and cultural sites side by side in your personal travel plans.

Wine and a Multi-Stage Gourmet Experience

The “Wine Trekking Gourmet” was offered in autumn. It consisted of a multi-course gourmet lunch served in several stages along a 5 km route through Cembra and Lisignago. Each course was paired with a wine from Val di Cembra, explained by a sommelier. The experience thus combines physical activity, culinary delights and the valley’s wines in a format tied to a specific time of year.

Local Information

The Ufficio Informazioni di Cembra provides visitor information, accepts bookings for certain events and activities, and provides information on local services, transportation and routes. When choosing accommodation in Cembra, you can use the focus you want for your days as a guide. The right choice therefore depends on your personal travel profile – for example, on the balance between physical activity, nature, culture and culinary experiences.
