Cimego is a destination for travelers who do not wish to view natural landscapes and rural culture separately. Riverscapes, craftsmanship and farming history represent different aspects of the area; in winter, Cimego offers numerous ski touring routes and a cross-country ski trail. The place is particularly interesting if you wish to combine cultural sightseeing with walks or seasonal activities.

Landscape along the Rio Caino

The protected area near Cimego includes a lowland forest of poplars, alders and ash trees along the Chiese River and the lower Rio Caino. This distinctive riverside landscape is one of the natural impressions that shape Cimego alongside its sites of cultural and historical interest.

The Orto della strega Brigida is a botanical gem along the route. Some of the many herbs used by Brigida have been gathered there. There is also a small, atmospheric riverside park by the Rio Caino, where you can enjoy the landscape and relax before or after your hike.

Ethnographic trails and traditional crafts

At the beginning of the 14th century, Dolcino preached his teachings in Cimego, accompanied by Margherita, and won numerous followers. The Casa Museo di Dolcino e Margherita was established along the ethnographic trail in his memory.

The ethnographic Rio Caino trail incorporates a restored lime kiln used for producing lime. The Il Mulino mill is powered by the waters of the Rio Caino and illustrates the entire grain-processing cycle—from milling to bread baking. The La fucina forge has been designed as a kind of “living museum,” where visitors can follow every stage of ironworking.

Quartinago-Cimego and farming history

The Casa Museo Marascalchi is a museum of rural civilization in the medieval historic center of Quartinago-Cimego, in the municipality of Borgo Chiese. Quartinago di Cimego is an ancient medieval village and a venue for Christmas markets.

The Pista ciclabile della Valle del Chiese runs through Quartinago di Cimego. Preserved mountain huts and clearings, remnants of the former rural civilization, belong to the Ecomuseo del Chiese and broaden the perspective on the history of the landscape.

Cimego in winter

In winter, Cimego offers numerous ski touring routes and a cross-country ski trail. This also makes the area appealing to travelers who want to spend the cold season actively in the mountain landscape.

Choosing the right location for your accommodation

If you are planning to stay in accommodation or a hotel in Cimego, you can base your choice of location on your interests: culture enthusiasts can focus on the historical and ethnographic sites, nature lovers on the places along the Rio Caino, while in winter ski touring and the cross-country ski trail come to the fore. This keeps Cimego open as a destination for different priorities, without presupposing a particular accommodation location or amenities.
