Discover Steinegg: History, Earth Pyramids and Trails
Accommodation in Steinegg
Steinegg Between History and Landscape
Steinegg combines local history with distinctive landscape experiences. The Museo Collepietra provides an overview of local history and local customs; the region’s native flora, fauna and minerals are also included. Among the special natural formations are the Earth Pyramids of Steinegg, clay formations shaped by erosion over thousands of years. For those interested in culture, a visit to the museum thus combines with a direct view of the Earth Pyramids of Steinegg.
Rural Life and Historical Traces
Through its exhibits, the Museo Collepietra presents rural life with its religious roots, customs and craft traditions, as well as the close relationship between the ancestors and nature. The historical trail extends from the first mention of Steinegg to its castle ruins. Steinegg Castle was first mentioned in 1231 and destroyed in the first half of the 15th century. Its architectural features indicate that it was used exclusively for defence.
The Castle Ruins Near the Village Centre
The Steinegg castle ruins are about a 20-minute walk from the centre of Steinegg. For a circuit of the village, the ruins can be planned as a separate section requiring approximately this walking time.
Hiking Trails Through Forests, Meadows and a Gorge
The Pyramid Path in Steinegg (Collepietra) leads through dense forests, across gentle meadows and through a gorge. This varied circular hiking trail leads to the Earth Pyramids. Along the way, the trail offers views of the Schlern and Rosengarten mountains. When planning a hike, the sequence of forest, meadows and gorge is therefore just as relevant as the route to the Earth Pyramids. The landscape, trail route and shaped clay formations create an excursion experience that combines observing nature with physical activity. As a circular trail, the route returns to its starting point after crossing the forests, meadows and gorge.
The Mini Star Trail in the Village Centre
The Mini Star Trail is located in the centre of Steinegg. The 105-metre-long art installation is also a themed trail featuring 11 selected stars. At its stations, comparisons of the sizes of the stars and the Sun are used to illustrate the dimensions of the stars. At 105 metres, the themed trail can be planned as a short section in the village centre.
A Hike and a Bike Tour with Different Characteristics
The Rittersteig trail from Steinegg (Collepietra) to Kardaun (Cardano) is 7.8 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours and 45 minutes. When planning the day, approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes can be allocated for this hiking route. For cycling, the Pyramids Tour is a moderately difficult bike tour. It runs mostly along paved roads and includes a very steep descent. When planning the day, the bike tour therefore requires particular attention to the very steep descent.
A Break at the Collepietra Outdoor Swimming Pool
The Collepietra outdoor swimming pool has a sunbathing lawn for relaxing and a snack bar.
