Discover Dimaro: History, Nature and Activities in Val di Sole
Accommodation in Dimaro
Dimaro combines landscapes, local history and active days in Val di Sole. The town lies at the entrance to Val Meledrio and at the foot of an alluvial fan between the two waterways, the Meledrio and the Noce. The renowned peaks of Sasso Rosso surround and protect the valley basin where Dimaro and Carciato are located. Here, the river landscape, valley setting and historical evidence come together directly.
Churches, Crafts and Historic Sites
On the way from Dimaro town centre to Carciato stands the east-facing Church of San Lorenzo. It certainly existed as early as 1264 and was rebuilt in the 15th century. The Palazzo del Dazio is still located in Dimaro's historic centre. On the outskirts of the town stands the Segheria Veneziana di Dimaro; its existence can be traced back at least to the beginning of the 19th century.
The history of metalworking is also part of the townscape. In connection with the Fucina di Dimaro, 28 hammer mills operated in Dimaro in the 16th century. Most of them were located in the Meledrio valley in an area called “Fosinace”, the old smithies. Those interested in regional craft history will find several specific sites and connections here that fit into the landscape of the valley.
The Val Meledrio Ecomuseum
The Val Meledrio Ecomuseum is an open-air museum in the municipality of Dimaro Folgarida and in Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. In the open air, it conveys the historical and cultural experiences of the valley. The tour begins in the town of Dimaro at its church. The Ecomuseum also includes guided tours of Val Meledrio, during which the old hammer and the Venetian saw are put into operation. These are scheduled for Tuesday and Friday afternoons in July and August.
Cycle Path, River and Activities in Every Season
The 35-kilometre cycle and walking path in Val di Sole runs along the Noce River and leads through the meadow plain to the town of Dimaro. Because of its gentle gradient, it is suitable for families and children. For water-based experiences, the rafting centre in Dimaro offers rafting and hydrospeed. In summer, Dimaro also offers trekking, cycling and rafting; in winter, skiing, snowshoeing and ski mountaineering are available.
Putting Dimaro in Context as a Destination
