Fiavè can be discovered through its natural landscapes, pile-dwelling history, cultural sites and specific experiences. The area combines an educational trail, an archaeological site, a museum, an archaeological park and a regional bus route, offering different options for planning your trip.

Wetlands and rare plant communities

The Fiavé peat bog has the status of a provincial nature reserve and a Special Area of Conservation. Its landscape was created as a result of the silting up of a former lake. This lake had formed at the end of the Würm glaciation following the creation of a moraine dam. The Fiavé Nature Reserve is part of the Sarca River Park and contains diverse plant communities, including some that are very rare.

Educational trail and archaeological site

The Torbiera e delle Palafitte di Fiavè trail is an approximately 3 km-long educational loop trail with information panels. The archaeological pile-dwelling site of Fiavé can be reached from the town of Fiavé via an easy path in about 30 minutes on foot. The two attractions focus on different aspects: the loop trail provides information along the way, while the archaeological site makes the surviving traces of the former settlement visible.

Pile-dwelling history at the Museo delle Palafitte

The Museo delle Palafitte di Fiavé is located in the Antica Casa Carli in Fiavé. The museum houses a collection of approximately 300 wooden objects. An entire floor of the Museo delle Palafitte di Fiavé in the historic Casa Carli in the centre of Fiavé is dedicated to reconstructing everyday life in a 3,500-year-old pile-dwelling village. The museum also tells the story of villages that developed along the shores and on the waters of the ancient Lago Carera from the Late Neolithic to the Bronze Age. Visitors can watch the short virtual-reality film “Antiche tracce. La vita in palafitta”.

At the archaeological site of Fiavé, the remains of the dense forest of wooden piles that supported the ancient pile-dwelling settlement have also been preserved underwater. In this way, you can encounter traces of this past both in the museum and at the archaeological site, though in different forms.

Hands-on archaeology

The Parco Archeo Natura di Fiavé comprises five life-size reconstructed huts, three of which can be visited. In the activity “L'archeologo cercastorie”, children help interpret finds, plans and excavation drawings in order to reconstruct life in the pile-dwelling village. In “L'orto preistorico”, children grind grain and sow seeds while trying out ancient farming and plant-cultivation methods. The archaeological park thus combines vivid reconstructions with activities in which children take an active role.

Castel Campo and special events

Castel Campo is first mentioned in a document dating from 1163. Castel Campo is open to the public only during special events. These include, in particular, theatre performances and concerts by renowned musicians and orchestras.

Getting around and choosing accommodation

Regional bus route 211 connects Fiavé with Riva del Garda, Tenno and Ponte Arche. When considering a hotel or other accommodation in Fiavè, you can compare your priorities with these specific themes: nature observation, pile-dwelling history, activities for children, special cultural events or connections to other places by public transport.

For further trip planning, you can also explore Darè, Levico Terme, Lomaso, Revò, Mezzolombardo, Ballino, Bezzecca and Ala.
