Isera: Wine Growing, History and Paths along the Adige
Accommodation in Isera
Isera between the Adige and the hilly landscape
Isera lies on the right bank of the Adige in a hilly landscape overlooking Rovereto. Its location combines wide-ranging views with a townscape strongly shaped by wine growing. The area around Isera faces the sun and is sheltered from the wind, making it suitable for growing Marzemino.
A prominent viewpoint is Castel Corno in the hamlet of Lenzima, Isera. The complex lies at an altitude of about 850 metres and offers panoramic views from the course of the Adige to the peaks of the Piccole Dolomiti. For your travel planning, this makes it a destination that connects the landscape with the higher surroundings of Isera.
Roman traces and postcards from Trentino-Alto Adige
The Roman Villa of Isera is an urban-rural villa near the Via Claudia Augusta route. It places a historic site at the heart of Isera, where the connection between settlement history and the region’s old transport routes can be traced.
The “Salvatore Nuvoli” Postcard Museum in Isera contains 35,000 postcards from Trentino-Alto Adige. The themes range from the First World War and the Austro-Hungarian Empire to political satire and events of the Renaissance, as well as the Tyrolean Uprising and the best-known tourist resorts in Trentino-Alto Adige. This makes the collection particularly interesting if you would like to connect regional history, everyday scenes, and historical ideas about travel.
Marzemino and regional cuisine
Cantina d’Isera is a cooperative winery founded in 1907. Originally, it collected grapes from the basalt hills of Isera. Today, Cantina d’Isera produces Marzemino di Isera and, since 2004, has also produced Trento DOC in the Brut, Brut Riserva, and Extra Brut varieties.
The Casa del Vino della Vallagarina is located in the historic Palazzo de Probizer. It offers traditional dishes paired with wines from its affiliated producers.
Another connection with local wine growing is “La vigna eccellente”. Each year, the award presents a prize for the best Marzemino vineyard and the most diligent producer. This allows you to discover Isera not only through individual products, but also through the cultivation and work behind the wine.
Paths for walks and bike tours
The Strada Romana connects the Marano district with the centre of Isera. Since 9 July 2026, it has officially been a safe footpath closed to motorised traffic; residents and local property owners are exempt. For peaceful navigation between the two districts, this clear traffic regulation is an important part of the route description.
The Destra Adige Lagarina is a hilly route for horse riding, cycling, and walking, following the course of an ancient road. The first stage begins in Patone and ends at Dos de l’Altar.
