Ivano-Fracena brings together historical buildings, paths through the mountain landscape and Trentino culinary culture within a compact area. Castel Ivano, the Antica canonica di Ivano Fracena and the Chiesa di San Vendemiano give the village a distinctive cultural and historical character. At Monte Lefre, you will also find woodland, remnants of the First World War, a panoramic viewpoint and a climbing crag.

Castel Ivano and the Historic Sites

Castel Ivano is an imposing complex built in the 6th century on the foothills of Monte Lefre in the municipality of Castel Ivano in Trentino. Today, Castel Ivano is an important cultural centre hosting events, exhibitions and congresses. Reservations are required for visits; a minimum group size of eight people is specified.

The Antica canonica di Ivano Fracena also reflects the area’s long history. Its design and fabric point to ancient origins, possibly dating back to the 16th century or an even earlier period. Local tradition connects a stone hemisphere on the building with its former use as a place where pilgrims were received.

The Chiesa di San Vendemiano is one of the oldest churches in the Strigno basin. Its history has been documented since the 16th century, while its origins may date back even further. For centuries, the church served as a hermitage. It was badly damaged during the First World War; restorations followed in 1922 and 1981.

Monte Lefre: Forest, Views and Climbing Crag

The Monte Lefre walking trail passes through the forest, alongside trenches and tunnels from the First World War. Its destination is a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Valsugana. The trail therefore combines an experience of the landscape with tangible traces of the region’s wartime history, without requiring the two themes to be considered separately.

For climbing enthusiasts, the Falesia M. Lefre “Ivano fracena” is another local attraction. It is a climbing crag near Ivano Fracena. You can reach the Falesia from the car park at the former Ca Bianca by following a forest road for about 10 minutes and then a path for approximately 5 minutes. Free parking is available near the Rifugio Monte Lefre.

Wine and Trentino Specialities

Another facet of the village can be experienced at Cantina Terre del Lagorai. The experience includes a walk through the vineyards, a visit to the outdoor areas of Castel Ivano and a tasting of three wines: two TrentoDoc wines and one still wine. Typical Trentino platters are served with them. This allows you to combine views of the castle with winegrowing and regional cuisine.

When choosing a hotel or other accommodation in Ivano-Fracena, you can therefore first decide which focus will shape your trip: cultural and historical sites, Monte Lefre with its trails and viewpoints, climbing, or wine and local specialities. The destination offers different points of connection for this, which can be combined in your personal daily itinerary.
