Lasino: Village History, Churches and Monte Bondone
Accommodation in Lasino
Lasino Between History and Mountain Landscapes
Lasino lies at the foot of Monte Bondone, also known as Alpe di Trento. From Lasino, Monte Bondone can be reached on foot in about two hours; its summit offers 360-degree views of the mountains of Trentino and South Tyrol. Traces of an ancient Roman settlement, along with numerous medieval and Renaissance houses, preserve the town’s long history.
Historic Centre and Villa Ciani-Bassetti
The Villa Ciani-Bassetti complex is a historic example of a manor house and agricultural estate with a park. It is integrated into Lasino’s urban structure. Walks through the town’s streets lead to the outside of the villa. The historic centre also features several murals and three works by the sculptor Francesco Trentini: the Fontana Lagolo, the bust of Roberto Bassetti and the Monumento ai Caduti.
Museum Offering Insights into Past Ways of Life
The “La dona de 'sti ani” Museum is located in the vaulted rooms of the Madruzzo town hall at Piazza Alcide Degasperi 25 in Lasino. It reconstructs a kitchen, a bedroom and a storage room with numerous objects from the past. A dedicated room is used for workshops aimed at reviving traditions.
Churches, Frescoes and Religious Art
The Church of Santi Pietro e Paolo in Lasino houses the altarpiece “Riposo durante la fuga in Egitto” by Andrea Pozzo. The Cappella del Santo Crocifisso dates from 1707. Its large crucifix was carried in processions to pray for rain during periods of drought. The Via Crucis di San Siro was inaugurated on 9 May 1937; each of its stations contains an original plaster panel depicting a moment from the Passion of Christ.
The Church of San Siro stands on a hill near Lasino. It is decorated with frescoes from the 1370s. They depict the twelve Apostles, Christ Pantocrator, the four Evangelists and a bishop who is thought to represent San Siro. In this way, the church complements the historical and spiritual themes that run through Lasino.
