Madrano-Canzolino: Lakes, MTB Route and Baroque History
Accommodation in Madrano-Canzolino
Madrano-Canzolino can be explored through several clearly distinct interests: the lakes of Madrano and Canzolino represent the connection with nature, the Chiesa della Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista in Madrano represents Baroque architecture, and the Giro delle frazioni di Pergine MTB route offers an active way to explore the area. There are also specific opportunities for fishing, as well as an event focusing on handicrafts, cheese, yogurt and regional foods. You can therefore shape your stay around landscapes, outdoor activities, history or culinary experiences.
Baroque History in Madrano
The Chiesa della Decollazione di San Giovanni Battista in Madrano dates back to the 15th century and is an example of Baroque architecture. The present-day church was rebuilt after 1765, completed before 1779 and consecrated on July 13, 1782. The three Baroque marble altars in the church of Madrano were acquired in 1803. This building therefore combines origins in the 15th century with a later, clearly dated construction phase and Baroque furnishings.
Lakes and Paths between Madrano and Canzolino
Lago di Canzolino is a small alpine hill lake. Lago di Madrano is connected to Lago di Canzolino by a small stream. Those interested in alpine bodies of water and their geographical relationship will find a manageable landscape setting here that can be easily combined with other interests in the area.
On the Giro delle frazioni di Pergine MTB route, the trail runs through Canzolino and to Lago di Madrano. After Canzolino, a path follows the lakeshore to Vigalzano. The route is therefore particularly relevant if you plan to include cycling in your trip and would like to visit both Canzolino and Lago di Madrano.
Fishing at the Lakes
The Associazione Pescatori Madrano Canzolino manages the lakes of Madrano and Canzolino in the Pergine area. Spinning, carp fishing and fishing in still waters are possible at these lakes. As part of the lake management, caught fish—particularly carp and tench—are generally released. Fishing at the lakes of Madrano and Canzolino is permitted on all days of the week; it is prohibited when more than half of a lake is covered with ice. For anglers, both these types of fishing and the handling of caught fish are therefore part of the distinctive framework of this travel interest.
Handicrafts, Cheese and Regional Foods
At an event in Madrano and Canzolino, a basket maker demonstrates how baskets are made. Sheep and goat breeders offer workshops on making cheese and yogurt. Polenta, Luganega, local cheeses and the traditional dessert “Straboi” are available to sample.
When choosing your hotel or another type of accommodation, it may be helpful to first determine the focus of your stay: the lakes of Madrano and Canzolino, the MTB route, Madrano’s architectural history, or the combination of handicrafts and regional foods at an event.
