Mezzano Among Art, Trails and Mountain Landscapes
Accommodation in Mezzano
Mezzano lies in the Primiero Valley at the foot of the Pale di San Martino. The village combines art in public spaces, museums, a historic chapel and trails through meadows and mountain landscapes.
Art and Everyday History in the Village
The permanent exhibition “Cataste & Canzei” comprises 26 works of art in Mezzano, distributed throughout the village. This form of presentation draws attention to different areas of the village and makes art an integral part of the exploration.
The TabiĂ del Rico is an ethnographic museum with objects that tell of life and work in Mezzano in the past.
As part of the Sedia Rossa experience, you can summon someone who lives nearby by ringing a bell on a red chair. This person provides visitors with information and tells the story of Mezzano and its mountains. This gives the location an unusual, narrative character.
The Tabià del Checo displays works by local craftspeople as well as products from local agricultural and food producers in modern cubic display cases. These include Zeni scultori, Gianluigi Zeni, Artelér, Artistica legno GT, Macelleria Bonat, Bionoc’ and La Rondine. The selection combines craftsmanship and regional production in a tangible insight.
The Lisiera is the only one of its kind in the whole of Trentino to be protected by the Soprintendenza. The village landscape also includes around 250 gardens in Mezzano and its hamlets, with vegetables, flowers, herbs, fruit trees and climbing vines. The gardens give Mezzano’s village landscape an agricultural character that remains visible alongside its art and museums.
Hiking Trails with Mountain Views
For a hike above Mezzano, there is the San Giovanni–Falasorni loop trail: it is easy and well marked. The Anello Poit–Cordognè–San Giovanni loop offers views of the Pale di San Martino, Monte Pavione, the green meadows of San Giovanni and the turquoise Lago della Val Noana. The Pale di San Martino also frame Mezzano’s setting and the views from the loop trail above the village.
The “Mezzano Romantica” guided tour follows themed trails focusing on water, gardens, rural architecture, frescoes and artistically arranged woodpiles.
The Chiesetta di San Giovanni Battista, dating from 1514, is part of the area’s history. It was built so that charcoal burners and farmers who stayed in the area for several months to work could attend Sunday Mass there. The church therefore points to the former working life around Mezzano.
Exploring the Primiero Valley
A cycle and pedestrian path leads from Molarèn to Fiera di Primiero through well-kept meadows, with views of the Pale di San Martino.
