Montesover at high altitude

Montesover is a small alpine center on the edge of the forest, situated at an altitude of 1,130 meters. The village combines hiking trails, historic traces, panoramic views, and a landscape in which forests, pastures, and mountain areas are closely connected with trip planning. When choosing a hotel in Montesover, you can use these different facets as a guide for your days there.

Trails for different kinds of days

The SAT E468 trail leads from Montesover to Rifugio Sprugio “Giovanni Tonini” and is 11,880 meters long. Another option is the “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route: it is suitable for outings on warm summer days and for snowshoe hikes in winter. Depending on the season of your trip, this allows you to compare different ways of exploring the area.

From Montesover, Baita Monte Pat can be reached by car or on foot via SAT trail 468. On the “Alpeggi alle pendici del Lagorai” route, you can taste the cheese produced there at Malga Vernera. The landscape and regional specialty come together here as part of a specific trail experience.

Historic trails and places

The “Sover e le sue frazioni” route connects Sover, Piscine, Monte Alto, and Montesover. The historic Grauno–Grumes–Sover–Piscine trade route was used for small-scale trade with Sover, Montesover, and Piscine, as well as for visiting friends or relatives on the other side of the river. These trails give the surrounding area a tangible historical dimension, without requiring you to limit yourself to sightseeing alone.

Along the Grauno–Grumes–Sover–Piscine route, you can see and/or visit various old lime kilns, water-powered mills, and smithies. Montealto and Carnedo preserve traditional Trentino architecture with wooden balconies and masonry made of exposed stone. The third stage of the Cammino delle Terre Sospese also recommends visiting the church of Montesover.

Gorge and views

The Grauno–Grumes–Sover–Piscine trail includes the gorge of the Avisio River, which is considered an untouched, wild, and untamed landscape. Maso Montealto offers a different perspective: from there, the view extends across the entire Val di Cembra, from Grauno to Albiano, as well as toward the mountains around Trento.

Getting there and finding your way around

Montesover can be reached using the interurban public transport lines B 403 and B 404. The route from Montesover to Facendi follows an ancient paved road, a “salesà”, which served for many years as the access road to Montesover. For your planning, both lines B 403 and B 404 and the historic route to Facendi are therefore key options.

Mountain biking in the western Lagorai range

Tour 866 – Malga Vernera is a 13.5 km mountain bike loop starting in Montesover. It runs mostly along forest roads and includes technical sections on trails through the forests and untouched pastures of the western Lagorai range. Anyone considering accommodation in Montesover can take this tour into account alongside the hiking trails as a separate option for planning the day.
