Piazzola is the highest-altitude hamlet of the municipality of Rabbi and lies at 1,314 metres above sea level. Val di Rabbi is protected by Stelvio National Park. This combination of a high-altitude settlement and a protected valley makes the village a destination for travellers who want to divide their time between mountain trails, landscapes and regional culture. When choosing accommodation, the main question is therefore which experiences you would like to combine during your stay.

Church and Regional Dairy Processing

Piazzola is home to the Church of Madonna di Loreto. It was built in the second half of the 18th century as an extension of an original religious building, which was built in 1748 and destroyed by fire in the same year; the church was extended in 1836. In the nearby village of Somrabbi, the old cooperative dairy Casèl di Somrabbi was converted into a museum of dairy processing, where guided tours take place. This connects local history with a direct insight into regional dairy processing.

Hiking Trails and Experience Stations

There are various trails and destinations in the surrounding area for hiking. Route SI C03 of the Sentiero Italia CAI passes through Piazzola. The themed trail “Percorso del Latte e dei Masi” begins at the Rabbi Fonti visitor centre and follows the old mule track to Piazzola. “Fruscìo” is a sound park in the forest in the hamlet of Pozzatine in Val di Rabbi, at an altitude of 1,650 metres; seven sound and experience stations shape the park. “Fruscìo” can be reached on foot from Piazzola.

Mountain Destinations for Day Planning

Longer mountain destinations are also part of the valley’s character: trails from Piazzola lead to Rifugio S. Dorigoni mountain hut at an altitude of 2,437 metres. The moderately difficult “Le malghe di Rabbi” route is 8.8 kilometres long, takes 6 hours and begins in Cavallar, which can be reached from Piazzola. The different distance and duration details help you organise day plans according to scope and interest, without forcing the destinations into a single type of excursion.

Glacial Lakes and High-Altitude Landscapes

The Laghi Corvo are of glacial origin; Lago Corvo is home to a population of Arctic char, a typical fish species of high-altitude lakes. For visitors interested in high-altitude landscapes, this natural aspect adds another layer of observation to their stay. In this context, glacial refers to formation in connection with glaciers and places the lakes within a landscape history shaped by ice.

Rabbi Fonti and Travel to the Valley

Rabbi Fonti is a hamlet of Piazzola. It is home to a thermal facility with iron-rich, acidulous mineral waters. Val di Rabbi can be reached from Trento by taking the Dolomiti Express train to Malè and then a bus connection. This connection is particularly relevant if you plan your stay without travelling by car for the entire journey. When choosing accommodation in Piazzola, you can compare the desired mix of mountain trails, culture and thermal facilities with your personal daily itinerary.
