Art, Sacred Sites and Crafts

During his journey in 1494, Albrecht DĂĽrer devoted several watercolour views to the castle ruins in Piazzo (SpiĂ z). In Piazzo di Segonzano, Ca' de la Val is housed in the stone building of the historic Venetian sawmill. The restored sawmill is considered part of the local craft heritage. The Chiesa dell'Immacolata preserves a statue of the Madonna dell'Uva from the 15th century, the work of an anonymous Tyrolean master; throughout Val di Cembra, she is revered as the protector of the harvest. The Santuario della Madonna dell'Aiuto is another special sacred site: It lies in a forest in the shade of a lime tree several centuries old.

Castle Ruins with Historical Significance

The ruins of Castello di Segonzano are located on a rocky hill overlooking the historic Ponte di Cantilaga. Castello di Segonzano is mentioned in documents dating from 1216.

Trails through Forest and Village

Two trails are the focus for active days. The Sentiero di Segonzano combines geological and natural-historical interest with long forest sections along old mule tracks and stops in attractive villages. The Sentiero di DĂĽrer leads from Lago Santo via Cembra, Ponte di Cantilaga and the ruins of Castello di Segonzano to the earth pyramids of Segonzano. A climbing facility has been installed along the route Castello di Segonzano e il canyon del PrĂ  on the rock face above the water.

Gorge, Water and Climbing Facility

The route Castello di Segonzano e il canyon del PrĂ  leads to a rocky gorge. There, the Avisio has formed a calm, blue-green natural pool. This trail therefore combines the rocky landscape with a distinctive water feature.

Wine and Personal Travel Planning

A culinary aspect is offered by an experience from Cantina Barone a Prato: The basket is collected at the winery, after which the experience continues near Castello di Segonzano with wine from Barone a Prato and regional products. When choosing a hotel or other accommodation, you can give these focal points different weight according to your personal travel plans: forest trails and rocky landscapes, historic sites, sacred buildings or a regional wine experience.
