Spiazzo lies at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites and combines a rich cultural history with paths through forests and mountain landscapes. As the historic seat of the Pieve di Rendena, the town offers points of interest for travelers who wish to combine church art, crafts, regional products and nature experiences in a single trip.

Churches, History and Local Craft Culture

The parish church of Spiazzo is dedicated to San Vigilio; its nave was entirely frescoed by Simone Baschenis de Averara. At the Museo Guerra Fronte Adamello, you can see an extensive collection of artifacts. In Borzago, a district of Spiazzo Rendena, you will find the Cort da Togno, a courtyard and the first settlement of Spiazzo reached from the south when traveling through Val Rendena. Its murals depict proverbs, satire from everyday life and often captioned jokes. In Borzago, you can also visit craft workshops.

Themed Trails between Art and Everyday Life

For culturally oriented walks, the Via da le Vide is an excellent choice: dedicated to wooden sculpture, it begins in Borzago and leads through a forest with centuries-old chestnut trees and dry-stone walls, among which wooden artworks are displayed. This easy themed trail is accessible to everyone. The permanent historical themed trail “Terra di Molèti” runs from the Pieve di Rendena, with the Church of San Vigilio, to the historic center of Mortaso. There, artworks and information panels tell the story of local itinerant knife sharpeners who emigrated.

Salagad'Art is dedicated to art along old mule tracks and to Land Art. The trail follows a restored old mulattiera from the town to the hamlet of Teggia di Fisto. In Spiazzo, you can visit a knife-making workshop, workshops for distillation and the production of gentian liqueur, and learn about the processing of wild herbs into food products.

Nature, Trails and Excursions

The natural side of the area can be experienced at the Casa del Parco Acqua Life visitor center in the municipality of Spiazzo Rendena. It focuses on the fish species of the Sarca River and the protected area. In Spiazzo, you can take part in activities organized by Adamello Brenta Nature Park. An official moderate circular hike, “Bocchetta del Cannone – Itinerari della Grande Guerra,” runs through the Spiazzo area, reaches an elevation of 2,821 meters and follows the traces of the First World War, with trenches, fortifications and military positions along the route.

Longer excursions are also documented as options in their own right: from Spiazzo, mountain bike tours are possible along the Dolomiti di Brenta Bike route. A trekking route leads from Rifugio Carè Alto to Rifugio Val di Fumo.
