Tassullo among Churches, Castles and Nature

Culture and History in Tassullo
When you explore Tassullo, you encounter important evidence of its sacred and medieval history. Santa Maria Assunta is a Gothic church in the Clesian style. Its rectangular floor plan, five-sided apse and Gothic tracery windows define the building. The altar of Santa Maria Assunta in Tassullo was consecrated on 10 August 1101; at that time, 66 relics of martyrs and saints were deposited there.

The Chapel of San Valerio in Castel Valer contains a 15th-century fresco cycle created by the Bergamasque painters Giovanni and Battista Baschenis. Castel Valer also stands out for its octagonal tower: it is over 40 metres high and is considered the tallest of its kind in Trentino.
Castles in the Surrounding Area
Castel Valer can be visited as part of a guided tour, which must be reserved in advance. The Castello di Cles is located in the immediate surroundings of Tassullo. Castel Thun is also nearby. Castello Boymont belongs to the wider regional surroundings of Tassullo and expands the historical scope of your excursion planning.
The history of individual works of art also extends beyond Tassullo. The church’s former wooden altar is now kept in the Museo Diocesano di Trento. This allows the architecture preserved on site and the sacred art preserved elsewhere to be mentally connected.
Gorge, Forests and Orchards
The nature around Tassullo offers a clear contrast to its churches and castles. The circular trail through the Santa Giustina Gorge leads to the remains of the old Santa Giustina hermitage. The Forra di Santa Giustina is a nature reserve in Trentino and protects the flora and fauna of this special habitat.
Access to this circular trail is also clearly described for planning purposes: it can be reached by public transport via Tassullo railway station. The Passeggiata al Roplan offers a different perspective on the landscape. It leads through the forests around the Malghetto di Tassullo and across the fields of Roplan.
The landscape is also characterised by terraced orchards that descend from Tassullo to the right bank of the Noce River. Monte Ozol and Monte Corno, both mountains, are also located in the vicinity of Tassullo, as are Monte Pellerot and Castellazzo, which are classified as peaks.
Your Priorities for Your Stay
This allows you to experience Tassullo from different perspectives: Santa Maria Assunta, Castel Valer and the other castles represent architecture and history, while the Santa Giustina Gorge, the forests around the Malghetto di Tassullo and the orchards provide the surrounding landscape. Depending on your interests, you can focus your stay more on sightseeing or on trails through protected natural and cultural landscapes.
