Terres lies between orchards and forests. The village offers both sacred art history and striking landscapes: churches, a gallery, a scree slope and an irrigation canal provide different starting points for days outdoors.

Church history with tangible traces

The Chiesa di San Giorgio is the oldest church in Terres; its original core was built after 1150. Inside, it preserves fragmentary battle scenes from the late 13th or early 14th century, attributed to the so-called Maestro di Ceniga. A fresco depicting Saint George and the princess was removed in 1926 and is kept at Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. In this way, the church building links Terres' oldest construction phase with medieval art and a work that is now preserved in Trento.

The Chiesa dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo in Terres is documented since 1537 and probably dates from the 13th or 14th century. After the fire on 16 August 1802, the present-day Chiesa dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo was built beside the older San Giorgio chapel. Construction began in 1828 and ended in 1830. Together with San Giorgio, this building represents another historical layer of Terres.

Paths through forest, scree and water

For active days, the route “Da Flavon-Terres al Lago – Val di Tovel” leads from Flavon or Terres to Lago di Tovel. It uses a safe, convenient and fast cycling and pedestrian gallery as a connection to Val di Tovel. With Flavon or Terres as your starting point, you can incorporate the route into your personal day plan.

Another route through the gallery of Terres leads to the Glare, the large Le Glare scree slope, which has a lunar appearance. It was formed by an old landslide that came down from Monte Corno several centuries ago. The scree slope can become hot in summer. For this reason, it is recommended not to walk across it during the hottest hours of the day – a practical tip for planning your time locally.

The Sentiero Margherita (“Il Lez”) runs level along the more than 160-year-old Lez irrigation canal. The canal formerly irrigated the fields of Terres, Flavon and Cunevo and diverted water from the Tresenica stream in Val di Tovel. This path is interesting if you would like to combine a level route with regional history.

A dedicated point for families

For families, Parco giochi Terres offers a clear activity in its own right: The woodland playground has charming wooden houses in the trees, slides and swings. This makes it easy to include in a day plan that combines churches, paths and time for children.
