Tregiovo in Val di Non: Churches, Trails and Alpine Landscape
Accommodation in Tregiovo
Tregiovo is a small village in a sheltered location in Val di Non, with views towards South Tyrol. It lies on the left bank of the Pescara stream, in an alpine setting among forests and meadows.
Churches and traces of local history
The historic Church of San Maurizio on the hill near Tregiovo was consecrated in 1512. Construction of the new Church of San Maurizio began in 1788. The church contains an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child by Mattia Lampi. The new church also preserves and displays a Stations of the Cross from the Lampi workshop. In Tregiovo, you can therefore encounter several tangible examples of sacred art associated with the two churches.
The Campanile di Tregiovo stands on the Dosso di San Maurizio, where the old church dedicated to the same saint once stood. At the site of the old church, the campanile, as well as the remains of its foundations and churchyard, have been preserved. Today, the Campanile di Tregiovo stands isolated in the meadows above the village, separated from its church. The Via di Morti leads to the Campanile di Tregiovo.
Walking trails and routes through the surrounding area
The area around Tregiovo offers easy walks. Frari is one of the destinations on the walking trails around Tregiovo. A circular route connects Tregiovo with Lauregno and is marked with trail sign 31 of the Lauregno Tourist Association.
The Rankipino cycling and pedestrian route also passes through Tregiovo and Lauregno and reaches Passo di Brez on a paved road. If you plan your trip according to your preferred mode of transport, this route can be considered separately from the easy walks. The landscape between forests and meadows provides the shared setting, while the Campanile, Frari and Lauregno mark different destinations or points of reference.
Traditions throughout the year
Village life is also reflected in several local traditions. The Madonna del Rosario procession traditionally takes place in Tregiovo every year on the first Sunday in October. The Corpus Christi celebration is traditionally held every year in the first half of June on the village's central streets. The Sagra di San Maurizio on 22 September is another local tradition.
A fresco of Saint Florian is located above the entrance portal of Maso Siban. Another local tradition in Tregiovo is the festival of Saint Lucy, held on the night of 12–13 December. If you would like to combine cultural experiences with the season during your trip, the key dates are therefore in early summer, September, October and December.
