Nativity Tradition and Church Art

The Presepio di Varena follows a 700-metre-long route. Along this route, scenes depict, among other things, a watermill, a bakery, grain threshing, a pottery workshop, a dye works, a tinsmith's workshop and a clog-making workshop. The scenes depict vanished activities that once flourished. According to the municipality, the idea originated in 1989 as a nativity scene that differed from the usual traditions.

The Chiesa parrocchiale dei Santi Pietro e Paolo dates back to 1193 in its oldest part; the building was subsequently rebuilt and expanded until 1882. The church preserves significant 15th-century frescoes, including a depiction of the Last Supper and an Adoration of the Magi. Large stone buttresses support the building and are considered a unique example among the old churches of Val di Fiemme. While walking through Varena, you can also discover the village's typical monolithic porphyry fountains.

Circular Trails for Forests, Views and Evening Hours

The Bosco resiliente della tempesta Vaia circular trail allows hikers and visitors to experience a storm-damaged forest up close and observe its development. At the same time, the trail connects sections of the old Trozo vecio mule track and the Sentiero delle Trincee. As a result, the same route focuses both on the transformation of the forest and on historic route connections.

The Sentiero naturalistico di Varena runs above the village and climbs into the area of the first slopes of Cucal. The Giro dei prati di Varena circular trail offers a different perspective: it can also be walked late in the evening or at night. Its innovative ground lighting is considered non-intrusive for observing the sky, providing a special opportunity to experience the trail later in the day.

Viewpoint and Special Habitats

The Il ciliegio ed il crocifisso di Varena circular trail leads to a viewpoint from which you can look down on Varena and view the Lagorai range. A large wooden cross stands behind the bench. The locality of Palù is situated on the same circular trail and is considered particularly damp and valuable in terms of its flora and vegetation. The church-historical sites, on the other hand, are located in the village.
