Discover Verla: Wine, Churches and Trails
Accommodation in Verla
Verla can be discovered through wine, local history and trails through the landscape. Specific highlights include the former parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, the church and festival culture of Verla di Giovo, Villa Corniole, and two different trail experiences in the surrounding area. This allows you to plan your stay according to your culinary, cultural or landscape interests.
Wine and mountain wines at Villa Corniole
At Villa Corniole in Verla di Giovo, the La Valle Alpina experience includes a welcome at the wine shop, a brief introduction to Villa Corniole and its mountain wines, a short cellar tour, and a tasting of three representative glasses from the estate's production – each subject to availability. Upon reservation, Villa Corniole offers wine tastings and cellar tours in Italian and English.
At Villa Corniole, you can taste Müller-Thurgau and Trento DOC wines in a cellar carved into porphyry rock or on a terrace overlooking the surrounding vineyards.
Churches with a long local history
The former parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Verla certainly existed before the year 1000. The small Madonna dell'Aiuto church is also popularly known as Sant'Antonio (Abate); it stands in a small square within the settlement of Verla di Giovo and on the old road that connected the village with Val di Cembra. The church was built between 1724 and 1733 to provide the local population with a place of worship.
Festa dell'Uva and trails through the vineyards
The Festa dell'Uva in Verla di Giovo is a cultural tradition deeply rooted in the lives of the residents of the municipality of Giovo and the entire Val di Cembra. For more than half a century, a colorful parade featuring numerous allegorical floats has made its way through the village streets every year. During the Festa dell'Uva, the Villaggio Centrale offers local menus, traditional dishes, wines, sparkling wines, desserts and specialties from Trentino.
The Marcia dell'Uva is a walk along the impressive vineyard terraces of Val di Cembra. Two routes of 5 or 10 km run between the vineyards' characteristic dry-stone walls, historic villages, old chapels, mountain farms and woods. At the refreshment points, seasonal autumn foods from Val di Cembra are offered.
The circular trail in the surrounding area
In the area around Verla, the Sentiero del Mancabrot e del Lac de Montesel circular trail begins and ends at the civic center of Valternigo in Giovo. The trail follows the pine-covered Mancabrot ridge and reaches the Lac de Montesel wetland in Bosco Maric at an elevation of 812 m. When choosing a hotel in Verla, you can take your own priorities between wine, culture and trails into account.
