Discover Vigo Rendena: Mountain Village Between Churches, Trails and Rural Architecture
Accommodation in Vigo Rendena
Vigo Rendena is a traditional mountain village with a tangible connection to history, rural architecture and mountain landscapes. The village lies partly on the eastern slopes of Corno Basso and partly on the valley floor at the edge of an extensive agricultural area. If you would like to get to know an Italian mountain village not only through its landscapes but also through its buildings and trails, you will find several distinctive aspects here to consider when planning your trip.
Churches, Chapels and the History of the Village
The Church of San Lorenzo in Vigo Rendena dates back to before 1384. In the area around Vigo Rendena, the Chiesa di San Valentino on Monte Nizzone was consecrated on 20 July 1405. Its origins are connected with the communities of Vigo Rendena, Darè and Javrè: they built the church to protect the livestock herds driven up to the mountain pastures.
The Chiesa di San Valentino preserves frescoes attributed to Simone Baschenis. They depict the Annunciation, Christ and the Evangelists. Vigo Rendena also has historic landmarks: according to tradition, the Capitello delle Quattro Facce was erected in 1348 as a votive offering during the plague and expanded in 1630.
The village's more recent history includes a major setback. Vigo Rendena was destroyed by a severe fire in 1929 and almost completely rebuilt. Another religious site is located in the Fisaröl district in the upper part of Vigo Rendena: the Grotta di Lourdes is a small shrine built in 1959. It faithfully reproduces the grotto of Lourdes and houses statues of the Madonna and Saint Bernadette created by the sculptor Ermanno Moroder from Ortisei.
Val San Valentino and Trails Through the Surrounding Area
In the wider regional surroundings of Vigo Rendena, Val di San Valentino stretches into the heart of Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta as a wild, unspoiled side valley. Excursions among waterfalls and mountain huts are possible there. The trails in the hilly areas around Vigo Rendena offer views over the Sarca Valley.
