Art and History in Arco

The Chiesa Collegiata was built from the beginning of the 17th century onwards and houses numerous valuable works of art. The Galleria Civica G. Segantini di Arco is located in the Palazzo dei Panni, which Giovambattista d’Arco had built towards the end of the 17th century, and is permanently set up as an exhibition space for the works of Giovanni Segantini. Sacred art and engagement with an important painter are thus at the centre of attention in two different historic locations.

Gardens and Paths by the Water

Thanks to the mild climate of Alto Garda, more than 150 species of trees and shrubs from around the world grow in Parco Arciducale, predominantly Mediterranean and subtropical plants. Access to Parco Arciducale is barrier-free and well signposted. The gardens of Arco are home to 450 trees and shrubs representing 128 botanical species and varieties.

The Parco Fluviale della Sarca extends along the entire course of the river, from the glaciers of Adamello to Lake Garda, over approximately 80 kilometres. Its signposted paths, which can be travelled almost entirely on foot or by bicycle, pass through areas of natural-scientific as well as historic and cultural interest. This allows nature observation, exercise and the regional landscape to be experienced in different ways.

Castle, Rilke Promenade and Orientation

Castello di Arco can only be reached on foot via an ascent of approximately 20 minutes. At Castello di Arco there is a cantilevered structure with a floor partly made of toughened glass. The Rilke Promenade di Arco is a literary walking route at the foot of Castello di Arco. It follows in the footsteps of the Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke, who was inspired by these places.

Climbing and the Rock Master

Arco Climbing offers areas for bouldering and rope climbing. A regular fixture in the annual calendar is the Rock Master in Arco: the competition, one of the first international free-climbing competitions, continues to take place every year at the end of August and brings together the world's best athletes in this discipline.

Planning Your Visit to Arco

The Salita al Castello di Arco route can be reached by public transport. When choosing your accommodation in Arco, it is helpful to use your planned interests as a guide: historic sites, walking routes, gardens or climbing opportunities. This allows you to decide before your trip which themes should shape your stay, without separating the town's cultural and scenic aspects from one another.
