Church history along the Adige

The first Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo in Masi was founded in 1358 near the left bank of the Adige River. Until 1489, it also included the S. Antonio hospice for travellers. The present-day Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo was consecrated on 22 October 1950. The dates therefore mark the founding of the first building and the consecration of the present-day church.

The Armenian Chiesa armena di San Felice stands within an agricultural holding. The Chiesetta di San Felice is one of the older architectural monuments that have been partially preserved in Masi. The range of sacred architecture thus extends from the documented history of the Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo to smaller, partially preserved buildings.

The Oratorio del Cristo d’Oro

The Oratorio del Cristo d’Oro is a small sacred building near the embankment along the Adige River. Built in the 16th century, the building initially served the Confraternita dei Disciplinati, later known as the “Battù”. The Oratorio has 16th-century rusticated masonry at its corners. There is a semicircular window at the entrance; the building also features a Neoclassical pediment.
