River Setting and Initial Orientation

Latisana owes its location to the Tagliamento River, which was once a preferred route for transport and trade. For arriving by car, the A4 Venezia–Trieste motorway with a Latisana exit is also a specific point of reference. For travel by car, the Latisana exit on the A4 serves as a point of reference, while the Tagliamento marks the town’s historical side.

Piazza, Bell Tower and Historic Churches

The buildings on Piazza Indipendenza show Venetian influences and round arches on the ground floor. When the paving was renewed, the remains of the demolished Santa Croce church were uncovered there in 2000.

The current 63-metre-high bell tower of the Church of San Giovanni Battista was rebuilt in 1920. The Cathedral of San Giovanni Battista also houses an altarpiece by Paolo Caliari entitled “Il Veronese”. It depicts the Baptism of Christ and dates from 1567. From the 17th to the 18th century, Latisana had seven consecrated churches, which earned the town the nickname “City of Septifanium”.

The Church of Sant’Antonio da Padova houses two altarpieces. The work “Sant’Anna, Madonna col Bambino, Triade Agostiniana e Donatore”, attributed to Jacopo and Domenico Tintoretto, dates from the late 16th century. The main altarpiece, “Sacra Famiglia, Sant’Antonio di Padova e Santa Chiara d’Assisi”, was painted by Mattia Bortoloni in the early 18th century.

The Church of Beata Vergine delle Grazie on the Tagliamento was probably built around the middle of the 16th century at a secondary landing stage of Latisana’s river port. It was previously called “Madonna della Sabionara”; at the beginning of the 19th century, it received its current name.

Wine and Regional Products

Albafiorita winery cultivates eight hectares according to the principles of organic farming. Albafiorita winery offers three different wine-tasting options accompanied by a selection of typical products. Tastings are held daily from 6:00 p.m. by prior reservation via WhatsApp. A tasting only begins from 6:00 p.m. each day and must therefore be planned as an evening appointment; reservation via WhatsApp must be made in advance.

Cinema, Theatre and Activities by the River

Cinema Teatro Odeon in Latisana offers films, theatre performances and events for all age groups. Teatro Odeon was established in 1920 under the name Teatro LEGA. The name was derived from the initials of the owners at the time. Cinema Teatro Odeon is located at Via Vendramin 72 in Latisana.

The renovated arena in Latisana’s Gaspari city park was equipped on 30 May 2026 with tiered seating and a new circular stage for modern, versatile use. Canoes can be launched into the Tagliamento River at Parco Gaspari via a small ramp. Anyone wishing to launch a canoe can bring it into the Tagliamento at Parco Gaspari using the small ramp.
