The island of Ischia, according to the trivago.it portal, is the most popular Italian island among the Internet site users, who searched for hotels in Italy. After analyzing users’ requests for the period from January to March 2012 trivago.it recognized Ischia the most popular island of the country.
Ischia is located not far from Naples. Water excursions to Ischia along with Vesuvius and Pompeii, are one of the main visiting cards of Naples tourism.
The second most popular island of Italy is Capri.
It should be noted that such islands as Sicily and Sardinia didn’t participate in the ranking. The rating was compiled only for the so-called "small islands of Italy", which in addition to the above mentioned Ischia and Capri include the island of Elba near the coast of Tuscany, as well as the islands of Lipari, Lampedusa and Favignana near the coast of Sicily.
Popularity of such Italian holiday destinations as Ischia and Elba rose by almost 5% compared to the last year. This season such growth was mostly possible due to the reorientation of the German tourists in the southern European resort areas. Thus, many Germans refused to holiday in another popular Mediterranean country - Greece.
The importance of Italian holidays for the Germans is proved by the fact that even the German chancellor Angela Merkel will spend these Easter holidays on Ischia in the Miramare hotel.
As for tourists from Russia, most of them Ischia is not a holiday destinaton, but rather a popular sight during the tour to the south of Italy. The main attractions of Ischia are the Aragonese Castle and the unique natural phenomenon - underground volcanic vapor jets. Ischia is also considered as one of the favorite holiday beaches near Naples.
