The exposure in the Palazzo Reale will include in total 250 Picasso’s works, including sculptures, drawings and photographs. It will be the first large Picasso exhibition in Milan over the past 59 years.
The level of interest in the exhibition can be judged by the number of tickets that were booked in advance. For example, 65,000 tickets from 3000 groups of visitors have already been booked in for September.
The exhibition will be supervised by Ann Baldassari, who is considered one of the most authoritative Picasso experts. Baldassare is also the curator of the National Picasso Museum in Paris, which today keeps the largest collection of the artist’s works in the world.
Palazzo Reale is one of the main cultural centers of Milan situated in the heart of the city on the Piazza Duomo near the famous Milan Cathedral and Vittorio Emmanuelle II galleria. This is one of the main attractions of Milan, part of which is still being reconstructed. Reconstructed part of the former Imperial Palace today houses Palazzo Reale historical museum.
We can say that a new era of the Palazzo Reale began in 2009 when the exhibition dedicated to the centenary of Futurism opened in the palace. As we know, Milan is considered to be the cradle of futurism. Another important event for the Palazzo Reale is the exhibition of the famous impressionist Monet, organized by the palace in collaboration with another Parisian museum - Marmottan.
