Coast, Historic Centre and Pilgrimage

Casalbordino combines coast, historic centre and pilgrimage. Two questions are particularly useful when planning your trip: What kind of beach setting are you looking for, and are you more interested in churches and architectural history or in cycling and walking routes? The attractions are spread across different focal points: Miracoli and the centre represent pilgrimage and architectural history, while the Lido and Lungomare offer beaches and routes by the sea.

Two Different Beach Settings

Casalbordino Beach is wide and long and consists mostly of sand. You can reach it via the S.S. 16, the turn-off to Lido di Casalbordino and then Via Bachelet in a southerly direction. Santo Stefano Beach has a different character: white pebbles and sand dunes line the Lungomare. Access is via State Road 16, Casalbordino's Lungomare and Via Alessandrini.

Pilgrimage and Historical Heritage

The district of Miracoli is home to the basilica and sanctuary of Madonna dei Miracoli. The origins of the sanctuary are connected with the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Alessandro Muzio from Pollutri on 11 June 1576. The sanctuary is a pilgrimage destination and was consecrated on 11 August 1962. The Benedictine Monastery Library is affiliated with the monastery at the sanctuary; it offers weekday consultation hours, with additional afternoon hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Those who include the library in their cultural itinerary can distinguish between the weekday consultation hours and the additional afternoon hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In Casalbordino's historic centre, a tower has been preserved that was part of the medieval town walls. The Church of San Salvatore, dating from the 18th century, is also located there. The Church of Santissimo Salvatore has a late Baroque interior with stucco and gilding, as well as a longitudinal layout with three naves. Palazzo Magnarapa dates from the mid-19th century and comprises three surviving building sections from the 16th and 17th centuries. Those comparing the architecture can gain different perspectives on the town's history from the preserved tower, the church interiors and the palazzo.

Cycling and Walking Routes by the Sea

A four-kilometre cycle and walking path was inaugurated along Casalbordino's Lungomare. A new section in Casalbordino provides additional continuity for the Via Verde della Costa dei Trabocchi and for the Ciclovia Adriatica as a whole. The Rete Ciclabile dei Trabocchi runs from Francavilla al Mare to Casalbordino Lido. From Lido di Casalbordino, an unpaved path follows the former railway line to the rocky headland of Punta Aderci and the nature reserve of the same name. This makes a difference when planning between a limited loop by the sea and a broader tour along the coast: the local path offers a manageable section, while the further connections place the route within a larger coastal context.
