La Gola del Sangro is also known as Foce di Barrea and is a six-kilometer-long canyon formed by the Sangro River. The two names are already helpful for orientation: depending on the context, you may encounter the site as Gola del Sangro or as Foce di Barrea. The six kilometers refer to the length of the canyon and provide a spatial, not temporal, framework for planning a day around Barrea.

There is also Il Mondo dei Pipistrelli, an educational space with videos, information panels and a live broadcast from a colony of Rhinolophus ferrumequinum in a historic building.
