Goito between the Mincio and the Po Valley

The landscape around Goito lies in the central and lower Po Valley. The Mincio River is its defining feature; country roads, canals, irrigation ditches, rows of trees and hedges run through the surrounding area. Towers, Mills and Architectural History

The Torre Civica Goito is a 22.40-metre-high medieval tower with four floors. Access to the Torre Civica Goito is permitted only during events. If you plan to visit the tower, this access notice is therefore one of the important practical details for your visit.

The Vecchi Mulini ad Acqua on the Mincio date from the early 17th century. They preserve historic equipment as well as the surviving paddles that once powered the millstones. Villa Giraffa is also located on the banks of the Mincio beside the Ponte della Gloria. It combines an eclectic mix of architectural styles from the 15th to the 20th century.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Pietro Apostolo in Goito is a Baroque church. Construction began in 1729 and was completed in 1734. In the central area there is a large painting by Giuseppe Bazzani, created in 1739, depicting Christ handing the keys to Saint Peter.

Memorial Sites on the Mincio

The Monumento al Granatiere was inaugurated on 30 May 1998. It commemorates the victorious Battle of Goito, fought on 30 May 1848 on the Mincio near the Ponte della Gloria. The Ponte della Gloria was a strategically important crossing of the Mincio and was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries. Along this stretch of the river, the structure and its associated memory thus come together directly in a historical context.

The Necropoli di Strada Calliera in Sacca di Goito has an oldest burial-ground area dating from the Gothic period, with 38 ground-level inhumation graves and rich grave goods. According to local tradition, the property of the Sordello family corresponds to present-day Corte Sereno, north of Parco Moschini and not far from the hamlet of Torre.

Green Routes and Different Ways to Explore

Centro Parco Bertone is a romantic landscaped garden with exotic and native trees that can be up to 150 years old. It includes woodland, appealing views and a small lake for walks amid nature. The site is therefore particularly appealing to visitors who want to combine historical impressions with peaceful landscape experiences.

For cyclists, the Mantova–Peschiera cycle route runs from Marengo towards Goito, reaching the Pozzolo–Maglio diversion canal and then continuing along the path on the left bank to Peschiera. The third stage begins at the Monumento al Bersagliere in Goito, near the Ponte della Gloria, and follows the Mincio through the Bosco degli Arimanni to Sacca. Both descriptions provide different route connections for personally planning a trip by bicycle or on foot.

Local Tradition in Torre di Goito

The Sagra del Pit is a traditional village festival in Torre di Goito, traditionally held on the first day of Lent. As a cultural reference, the festival complements the historic buildings and landscapes with a local event rooted in its own tradition.
