Urban history in the historic centre

Viadana combines a rich urban history with insights into archaeology, crafts and regional culture. MuVi is Viadana's cultural centre and is located in the town's historic centre. The Porta Nuova archway also characterises the historic centre and is therefore one of the town's prominent historical features.

The Museo Civico “Antonio Parazzi” focuses on the history and archaeology of the Viadana area. This focus is particularly evident in the archaeological section, which displays finds from Viadana and the neighbouring municipalities that document continuous human settlement from the Late Neolithic to the Roman era. This creates a historical timeline for you that extends far beyond the town's more recent history.

Another special feature is the textile section of the Museo Civico “Antonio Parazzi”. It includes historical fabrics dating from the 15th to the 19th century. These are associated with the traditional production of “tela Viadana” as well as with the cultivation and trade of Carthamus tinctorius, or safflower. The Museo della Città “Adolfo Ghinzelli” also focuses on Viadana's historical, civic and cultural memory.

Culture and landscape between the Oglio and Po

The cultural sites outside the museum area also give Viadana its distinctive character. The Cinema Teatro Vittoria is one of Viadana's most important cultural centres and is located at Piazza Antonio Gramsci 2. In San Matteo delle Chiaviche, a district of Viadana, the headquarters of the Ecomuseo “Terre d'acqua fra Oglio e Po” are located in a former thermal power plant belonging to the pumping station. The site thus directly reflects the technical and water-related history of the landscape.

The Canale Bogina is located in the “Oglio Sud” Special Protection Area (IT20B0401). In the areas of Commessaggio and Viadana, marked paths run along the canal banks and provide opportunities for excursions.

The signposted Greenway dell'Oglio also runs near Viadana along the right bank of the Oglio River. It is suitable for walking or cycling tours. The Viadana area also preserves visible traces of Roman centuriation: the regular alignment of the landscape follows the 14° NE/SW axis. In the Torre d'Oglio area, one of the few pontoon bridges still in operation is located; it replaced the former floating bridge.

Regional cuisine

The Meloni di Viadana are also part of the local identity.
