Two Coves and Shifting Shades of Blue
Capitana Beach consists of two coves. The first is smaller and crescent-shaped; the second stretches along the coast to a rocky headland. The coastline’s shape is distinctive even before you look out across the water. Near the shore, the sea is clear. Farther out, the shades of blue grow increasingly dark, reaching a deep blue. The coves and changing colors give the beach a distinct character and offer different details to look out for as you take in the coastline. For getting there, Provincial Road 17 is relevant: the beach can be reached via several turnoffs from the road.
Marina di Capitana: Berths and Water Sports
Marina di Capitana offers a different focus for planning your trip. It has around 480 berths for boats measuring 4 to 27 meters in length; berths can be purchased or rented. Capacity and commercial terms should be confirmed again before booking. Separate from these berths is an option for boat owners with boats up to 7 meters long: they can enter into a dry-storage contract that includes use of a slipway reserved exclusively for them. Boat length and contract type help distinguish this option from the berths. For the 2026 season, Marina di Capitana received the Blue Flag in the “Marinas” category on May 15.
Wind conditions also provide a practical point of reference for water sports enthusiasts. When the Maestrale or Scirocco winds blow, Capitana attracts surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers; schools and equipment rental services are available for them. Nuraghe Diana and Historic Traces
Nuraghe Diana consists of a main tower, two smaller towers and a square courtyard that provides access to several rooms. The courtyard is therefore a functional part of the architecture, not merely a detail beside the towers. Those interested in historic architectural forms can view both the group of towers and the courtyard as elements of a coherent structure.
You can reach the nuraghe on foot via a path that leads uphill from Is Mortorius. Leave your car in Is Mortorius beforehand. As parking conditions may change, check the situation before your visit.
Another historic trace is the Ex Batteria Contraerea C-165 di Capitana. Gun emplacements and underground ammunition rooms sealed with iron doors are still visible at the site; some of the personnel’s pencil inscriptions can still be read.
