Villasor: Discover Castello Siviller and Churches

In Villasor are Castello Siviller, the Parrocchia di San Biagio, the Chiesa di Santa Vitalia and the Chiesa di Sant'Antioco. Castello Siviller is a rare example of civil and military architecture in Sardinia. Its U-shaped layout and Guelph merlons give the building a clearly recognizable architectural profile.

Architecture and sacred art

If you would like to visit Castello Siviller as part of a guided tour, advance reservation is required; the visit therefore cannot be planned spontaneously.

The Parrocchia di San Biagio houses remarkable wooden statues. These include a statue of Saint Blaise from the 16th century and a statue of Saint Ephisius from the 18th century.

The Chiesa di Santa Vitalia also tells the story of a changing construction history. The older church had been closed in 1888 because of its poor condition; it was subsequently rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. Construction work on the present-day Chiesa di Santa Vitalia began in 1894 and probably ended in 1895.

This church is also associated with an annual recurring event: the festival at the Chiesa di Santa Vitalia takes place on the second Monday in October and also attracts worshippers from outside Villasor. The Chiesa di Sant'Antioco is historically closely associated with the Capuchin monastery to which it belonged. Construction work was completed on April 28, 1630.
