Jerzu offers several clearly distinct ways to experience a stay: wine, trails, nature and cultural heritage. The Antichi Poderi Jerzu cooperative winery connects the town with wine production; hiking trails lead to the forecourt of the rural church of Sant’Antonio di Jerzu and along the limestone plateau of Monte Corongiu. This local landscape is complemented by a natural history museum, a Punic necropolis, and historical and ancient sites in the surrounding area.

Winegrowing in Jerzu

Winegrowing can be experienced particularly concretely in Jerzu at the Antichi Poderi Jerzu cooperative winery. Antichi Poderi Jerzu is a cooperative winery to which every family in Jerzu delivers its grapes. The Cantina Antichi Poderi Jerzu was founded in 1950. Its connection with the families of Jerzu and its founding year of 1950 give winegrowing both a communal and a historical connection to the town.

Hiking trails with specific points of reference

Stage Z21B of the Sentiero Italia leads to the forecourt of the rural church of Sant’Antonio di Jerzu, where there is a fountain. The Muvroni – Sa Canna hiking trail, C-510, begins at the junction with hiking trail C 204 in the Muvroni area. C-510 then follows an unpaved path along the limestone plateau of Monte Corongiu. The first section leads to a religious point of reference, while the second runs along Monte Corongiu. The unpaved section is relevant when choosing footwear and planning the pace of the day. On Z21B, the forecourt of the rural church marks a clear destination for orientation. Hikers should take the starting point in the Muvroni area into account early when planning their hike on C-510.

Monte Corongiu and the Natural History Museum

At the foot of Monte Corongiu lies the Punic necropolis of Monte Corongiu, with several tombs and the remains of a hut. The necropolis connects the landscape around the mountain with archaeological traces of human use. Jerzu also has a natural history museum, established to promote and protect the town’s environmental heritage.

Church, Art and Historical Sites

Jerzu’s cultural heritage includes the parish church of Sant'Erasmo. It houses a painting by Nicolas Poussin depicting the martyrdom of Saint Erasmus. The subject of the painting is therefore clearly related to Saint Erasmus within the church. The historical sites of Nuraghe Coccu and Nuraghe Serbissi are also located in the area around Jerzu. The ancient site of Pozzo Sacro nuragico - Cardedu and the ancient site of Nurasolu are likewise located in the surrounding area.
