Agrustos lies between Ottiolu Island and Punta Li Cucutti. This location is particularly illustrative for orientation, as the local landscape consists of beaches, bays, a pond and the sea. The coastal setting is complemented by natural features and historical traces, so Agrustos cannot be reduced to a single focus for an excursion.

A coastal landscape of sand, rocks and wetlands

Agrustos Beach consists of light-colored sand interspersed with stones and rocks. Li Cucutti is part of a beach system with dunes and a wetland in the area behind the beach. Li Cuppulati is a wide strip of sand between the pond and the sea. Roman Traces and Local Tradition

Agrustos is very probably the present-day location of the Roman traffic station Augustus Populus. This cautious classification gives the town a historical dimension without pushing the coastal landscape into the background. The former fishing practices are also part of Agrustos's history: In the past, men, young people and women helped the fishermen who returned from the sea with the “sciabica,” a dragnet for shallow waters.

On June 24, Agrustos celebrates San Giovanni Battista, Saint John the Baptist, and the summer solstice. The date combines a religious connection with the seasonal celebration of the solstice and complements the historical and landscape-related themes with a specific occasion in the annual calendar.

Travel from Olbia

From Olbia, the route follows the SS131dcn toward Nuoro. After about 30 minutes, turn right at the Agrustos exit and continue along the SP1.
