Fortress Above the Bays

The Torre di Longonsardo stands on a promontory between the bays of Santa Reparata and Porto Longone. It towers above the bay, with views of the white cliffs of nearby Corsica. Between 1577 and 1599, the fortress was built from large granite blocks on the orders of Philip II of Spain. In 1802, Sardinian rebels briefly captured the Torre di Longonsardo before royal troops recaptured the fortress and forced the rebels to surrender.

Archaeology at Lu Brandali

The Lu Brandali archaeological site also reaches far back into the past. It dates from the period between the 14th and 10th centuries BC. The entrance is on the left-hand side of the road to Capo Testa, is signposted and is located about 2 km from Santa Teresa Gallura. The “LU BRANDALI: LEGGI, TOCCA, ASCOLTA” exhibition uses its own apps, 3D viewers and audio touch trails.

Marine Protected Area and Trails

The Capo Testa–Punta Falcone marine protected area is located in the municipality of Santa Teresa Gallura in northern Sardinia and extends across a marine area in the Strait of Bonifacio.

The Parco Punta Contessa is also located within the municipality. You can visit it via smaller unpaved paths and a network of hiking trails. A well-signposted circular trail begins near the town, leads to Cala Grande, the well-known Valle della Luna, and extends to the lighthouse overlooking the Strait of Bonifacio.

Water, Beach and Equestrian Sports

On the water, the diving centres in Santa Teresa Gallura offer services for beginners, professionals, children, adults and people with disabilities. They organise recreational and technical dives, as well as courses for obtaining diving certificates, and they rent out equipment. Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are considered organised activities in Santa Teresa Gallura: experienced local guides offer them by reservation for individuals, groups and families. Kayaking is considered suitable for the whole family, while stand-up paddleboarding is offered for more athletic participants and takes place on windless days. The coast of Porto Liscia beach is considered particularly suitable for a fun and adventurous experience for adults and children.

Planning Guidance for Your Trip

Equestrian sports take place in Santa Teresa Gallura all year round; the most beautiful rides are in spring and autumn. For a day at the beach, Rena Bianca can be reached from the centre on foot or by car. The route runs along Via Eleonora d’Arborea and Via Giuseppe Verdi, followed by one of the stairways from the main road down to the beach.
