Vignola Mare: Coastline with a Distinctive Landscape

Vignola Mare originally emerged as a fishing village and still preserves untouched stretches today, surrounded by granite cliffs and Mediterranean scrub. The approximately one-kilometre-long, crescent-shaped beach combines golden sand with pink granite reflections and pebbles smoothed by the sea. The shoreline, granite cliffs and scrub shape the immediate coastal area. Along the shore, sandy, pebbly and rocky elements therefore lie alongside Mediterranean vegetation.

Rio di Vignola and La Turra

The Rio di Vignola flows into the sea beside Vignola Mare, separating the two beaches of Vignola Mare and La Turra there.

Montirussu: Natural Area between Vignola and Rena Majore

The Montirussu Site of Community Importance extends along the coast between Vignola and Rena Majore. Wetlands and rocky cliffs in this area serve as natural observation spots for birdwatching. Birdwatching can therefore take place in both the wetlands and the coastal rock cliffs within the same natural area. Between Vignola and Rena Majore, Montirussu is not located at a single point but extends along the coastal stretch.

Canoes, Kayaks and Windsurfing Courses

From the mouth of the Rio Vignola, visitors can travel approximately three kilometres upstream by canoe or kayak. Kayaking and canoeing on the Rio Vignola are also possible in spring and autumn. The approximate route length and the possibility of going in spring and autumn provide specific planning information for this river trip. Vignola Sports offers windsurfing courses, including trial lessons, children's courses for under-12s, beginner courses, manoeuvre courses and private lessons. Torre Spagnola: Coastal History on Foot

Torre Spagnola was built in 1605 as part of Sardinia's coastal defence system to protect a tuna fishery. From Vignola Mare, it can be reached on foot via the beach and the mouth of the Rio Vignola; in summer, the mouth is dry.

Nuraghe Tuttusoni

Nuraghe Tuttusoni has a central tholos, or false dome, and is built entirely of granite.

Green Way along the Municipal Coast

The Green Way coastal path can be used along the municipality's 32-kilometre-long coast on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. The approximately three-kilometre-long river trip is shorter than the municipality's 32-kilometre-long Green Way. The stated distance refers to the municipal coastline and not just to Vignola Mare's approximately one-kilometre-long beach. For planning purposes, it is therefore important to distinguish between the individual beach section and the municipality's longer coastal path. The Green Way thus follows the coast, while the canoe route runs upstream along the Rio Vignola. Torre Spagnola is reached on foot; cycling and horse riding are possible on the Green Way.
